When Netgalley sent me an email promoting this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. They described it as a book for Lauren Oliver fans—aka me. And after reading it, that description is pretty dead-on. But You Were Here by Cori McCarthy is also very much it’s own unique thing. And it was a really cool reading experience for me. This book is about grief. That basically covers the major themes and plot. Jake died in a terrible accident…and he left his friends and family in his wake, not sure how to handle his loss. And this book explores five […]
We are excited to announce that the young adult novel Poet Anderson…Of Nightmares by Tom DeLonge and Suzanne Young is now available for sale! Welcome to my tour stop, be sure to stop by the tour page for the full schedule. My Favorite Quotes I love quotes. So to find so many beautifully-written and imaginative lines is a wonderful thing. Here are some of my favorite quotes from this book: He was surrounded by love, and he used that power to create. “I love this old tree,” Alan said, running his hand over the twisted bark of its trunk as he stood […]
Re-read reviews are always really hard for me because I don’t know what to say. So, I’m just going to list the three main reasons why I love Cress so much and why it was my favorite Lunar Chronicles book (before I read Winter): The addition of the Rapunzel story. Rapunzel has always been a favorite of mine. Tangled will forever be one of my favorite movies because she’s just wonderful. Literally, in my sophomore Speech Class in high school, we had to do a “campaign” speech, and I ran to be the next Rapunzel. No joke. So I love that Meyer added Rapunzel into […]
THIS BOOK WAS BEAUTIFUL. Powerful. Emotional. Poetic. Exquisite. Hard to read, but hard to put down. Heart-rending, heart-wrenching, heartbreaking. Guys, it was just lovely in the most tragic of ways. And everyone should read this book. My Book of Life By Angel is about a girl named Angel, a girl tricked and deceived and lured and eventually trapped into prostitution. At sixteen years of age. But she tells her “dates” that she’s 13 and it’s her first time because people will pay more for that. Because the world is awful, you know? People can be cruel and horrible. But then there are people like Angel. […]
Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet. I’m here to talk about Scarlet. Okay, I’m going to be frank here–I’m awful at re-read reviews. You know, when you read a book for the first time, everything is new to you so you have a lot of things to talk about. Everything is a new experience and, thus, the things that you liked stick out to you and the things that you didn’t like stick out to you. Because they’re fresh. But on a re-read, I’ve already been introduced to the characters, to the plot, to the twists. Nothing is new. So I have a hard […]
Dumplin’ is a book that has received all the hype and all the love among book bloggers. And when I say “all the hype,” I mean it. Like people were doing the “Dumplin’ pose” and posting pictures (aka the pose on the cover), people were tweeting about it, people were blogging about it. It was just all over because apparently it was just that good. So when I saw the opportunity to get my hands on a copy of the ARC from a fellow blogger, I grasped it eagerly. And I wasn’t disappointed.
