Interview with Dan Allen, Author of Fall of the Dragon Prince!

Interview with Dan Allen, Author of Fall of the Dragon Prince!

If you didn’t know, I’ve been an intern for Jolly Fish Press since September-ish. One of the first books I helped proofread was Fall of the Dragon Prince by Dan Allen, a great read with romance, action, battle, fantasy, and—of course—dragons. This book was released just last week, and I had the great opportunity to ask Dan Allen some questions about his writing, his life, and his book. Here’s some information on the book!: Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of the interview: Author Interview with Dan Allen You are a scientist. what got you started writing fiction? In grad school at UCSB […]

A Shadow Bright and Burning: an ARC Review

A Shadow Bright and Burning: an ARC Review

I was so excited to receive the ARC of A Shadow Bright and Burning in the mail. I’d heard such good things and the cover was beautiful and the plot sounded so unique. I wasn’t disappointed. I really liked it. So let’s talk about it, shall we? My Review First, I loved the main character, Henrietta Howel. She had this strong,  fiery (lol) personality. (Sidenote: Why is “fiery” spelled differently than “fire”??? Okay, anyway). I just really liked her. I felt she was really believable and honest. She kind of has it rough. She starts out as kind of a governess at this strict school, and there are […]

My Lady Jane: A Book Review

My Lady Jane: A Book Review

I loved My Lady Jane. I fell in love with it as soon as I read the dedication: For everyone who knows there was enough room for Leonardo DiCaprio on that door. And for England. We’re really sorry for what we’re about to do to your history. That really sets the tone for the entire novel. And FYI: This doesn’t have anything to do with Jack’s needless death in Titanic.  Basically, the Lady Janies (as the three authors call themselves) decided that Lady Jane Grey’s life wasn’t fair. In reality, she was Queen of England for nine days before she was beheaded by Mary. […]

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: A Script Review

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: A Script Review

It’s taken me a week to fully process my thoughts about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And when I say “fully process,” I really mean, “I partially have a grasp over the mess of emotions I’ve been feeling.” But it’s been a week, so I just have to write down my convoluted thoughts before I lose them completely. At this point, I think it’s fair to tell you that I’m going to try my hardest not to use spoilers. I think it’ll be hard, though. But when I do use them, I’ll always mark them, leaving you the choice whether or not you […]

The Rest of Us Just Live Here: A Book Review

The Rest of Us Just Live Here: A Book Review

Let’s start with this statement: My favorite books are the ones that intrigue me, that provoke me to think long after I’ve read them, that make me start talking about it to my roommate who doesn’t really care but I just talk at her anyway. And this book did that for me. In a really interesting way. So let’s discuss, shall we? The focus of this book is on the teens who are in the backstory of what we usually read in YA books. There’s the crazy, unique, paranormal story happening—but that’s not really what’s important. The main characters are just a group […]

Uprooted by Naomi Novik: A Book Review

Uprooted by Naomi Novik: A Book Review

Uprooted by Naomi Novik is going to go down as one of those all-time best fantasy/fairytale books. It’s beautiful and so unique and just feels like home, you know? Anyway, let’s talk about it. This book received a ton of hype when it came out last year. So. Much. Hype. So much so that I listened and ordered the UK version because the cover was so beautiful. Just look at it up there! You can’t tell, but the gold actually shines. I mean, the US version is also super beautiful, look: Cool, huh? The cover are both pretty different, but they’re both really unique and intricate and […]
