Looking Back: August 2016

looking back aug 2016

Hello, hello! It’s now September! Which means that hopefully it’ll stop being 90+ degrees all day, every day. I don’t think I did a recap for July, but that’s okay. Not much happened in July for me. I know what you’re thinking, “Julying, Carlisa. There had to have been stuff you did.” But not really—just my internship, and that’s it. So let’s just move on and talk about August, shall we?

What I…

  • Said goodbye to: My summer editorial internship. I interned for a magazine about an hour away from where I’m living in Utah, and it was such a great experience. I truly loved it and was sad to say goodbye to everyone I’d met and all the fun things I’d done. I won’t miss the commute, but I will miss everything else.
  • Did after my internship: Flew to California! I went to Disneyland for one day and got sunburnt at the beach and went to Hollywood. Basically it was so fun, and I’m glad I got a little break before I started school again. Speaking of school…
  • Started again: Classes! Today is the fifth day of my classes, and I’m thinking that it’ll be a pretty good semester. This is my second-from-last semester. I’ll graduate in April *insert shocked face*. How crazy is that!
  • Can officially tell you now: A few weeks ago, I interviewed with a small YA publishing house called Jolly Fish Press, and I got the official offer yesterday, so I can tell you now! I’m going to be an editorial intern for them starting in a few weeks. I’m so excited! It’ll be my first experience with book editing and publishing, and I’m excited to dip my toes into it!
  • Have Been Practicing: Bookstagram! I took the plunge and started an account. I’m still learning and still trying to get the hang of it, but check me out if you want to!

  • Maraia

Congratulations on the new internship! I’m really happy for you. Just based on the name, it sounds as if it’ll be great. 😀 And I’m glad your summer internship went so well!

  • I read eight books this month and started school this week as well. Ugh I just wish it could be summer forever just so I could have all the time to read books. I do love school though. The internship you’re about to start sounds like fun though, and I wish you the best of look! I hope your September is a great one as well. <3
