On My Nightstand in July 2016

Yay! I love these monthly to-be-read lists. I don’t know why. I just think it’s so fun. Even though I almost never complete it all either. But I can dream, can’t I? So let’s talk about the books that are on my shelf this month.

(Also, I’m not going to do this month in my usual Review/Class/Kicks style since I have nothing for class and not many new review books.) But I will separate one section: My #MakeMeRead books!

I’m participating this month in the Make Me Read It readathon, where all of you lovely people vote for the books that I read and what order I read them in. You can still vote here (until the 8th when I’m shutting it down). So here are the top contenders and the books I’ll probably be reading!

uprooted darkest minds rest of us sacred lies of minnow bly

But it’s a close race among some of them…so go vote! Your vote can make a difference…in my reading life. And I’ll give you an imaginary “I Voted!” sticker to make you feel good about yourself.

Here are some other books I’m hoping to get to this month (I’m really crossing my fingers it’ll be a good reading month for me):

What books are you reading this month? Have you read any on my list? Let me know in the comments!

  • I’ve heard tons of great things about WANDERLOST–it looks great! and I absolutely adored THE REST OF US JUST LIVE HERE, so you know what I’m voting for, haha ;D Happy reading!!

Rabiah @ Confessions of a Readaholic

    • I’m going to read TROUJLH (lol at that acronym) soon! I hope I love it.

  • Ali (@ thebandarblog)

Can I ask you a noob question? (See I’m just going to ask it and not wait for you to tell me if it’s okay or not.) I see that you use images of the covers of books. How do you acquire those images so that it’s not “illegal” or whatever? I always just take my own photos, because I’m worried about copyright crud, but I want to be able to post things like this and use these sorts of images!

    • So I took so long to answer this because I really tried to research it and find a straight answer. I still want to look into it more. But there’s something called the Fair Use Act, which says we can use copyrighted material for commentary if we aren’t profiting off of it. The Act doesn’t seem to be a black-and-white type thing, but the reviews and posts I make seem to fall under that for me.

And I’m promoting the books, so the publishers want that.

Something’s that I’ve wondered for a while, though, is how people can use book quotes to make graphics and mugs and shirts and stuff and profit off of those? I don’t think that falls under the same thing.

I don’t know if that’s a good enough answer, though.

I kind of thought the same thing – that as long as you’re not profiting off of it, it’s not a big deal. So yay for validation! Thanks for answering (: You’re truly the best!

  • I absolutely adored The Darkest Minds and The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly! TDM is my top favorite dystopian, so I hope you enjoy it!
I’m excited to hear what you think about Uprooted and (if you get to it) The Last Star. Great post! 🙂

    • I’m starting TDM tonight *Eep* so I hope I love it as much as everyone else does.

And I just finished Uprooted like an hour ago and thought it was PHENOMENAL. I don’t know why I waited so long to read it.

  • I haven’t read any of the books on your nightstand, but I’m also hoping to get into Rose Under Fire soon. I’d also consider reading The Darkest Minds and The Rest of Us Just Live Here, but I don’t own them yet.

    • I just finished Rose Under Fire, and you should definitely read that! Have you read Code Name Verity yet?

  • Jordan @ The Heart of a Book B

I love The Darkest Minds trilogy!! I haven’t read Rose Under Fire yet, but Code Name Verity is my FAVORITE book! Happy reading!

    • If Code Name Verity is your favorite, then you NEED to read Rose Under Fire. I just finished it last week, and it’s just as good.

Oooh, thanks for the rec!! I haven’t actually heard too much about it and I think it’s taken me so long to pick it up because I didn’t want to be let down. I’ll definitely make room for it soon now, though! 🙂
