Ten Websites I Love (That Aren’t About Books…Shocking, I Know)

Top Ten Tuesday

This prompt is actually kind of hard. Like what? Do things that aren’t bookish? Who do you even think I am? Just kidding. But not really. Anyway. Hopefully I can come up with ten websites that aren’t about books!

I Waste So Much Time

This was my very first thought upon seeing this prompt. Iwastesomuchtime.com is basically what the title says…it’s a website to waste time. And it’s been my loyal companion since we got laptops in high school, and they blocked all social media. What else are you going to do during class except find pointless websites like this? (Don’t worry, I got good grades in high school.) It’s basically just memes and cool pictures, and I just scroll through it when I have nothing better to do. So, yeah.

Pinterest

This site can be bookish, but it’s also so much more, so I’m counting it. And I don’t think I really have to say much more about this. Y’all know the addiction.

Family Search

This site’s basically like Ancestry.org where you try to fill up your family tree and do family history. And I’ve really gotten into it recently. It’s fun to see where your family’s from (for me: basically all of Europe) and to see how they’ve made their way to where I am now. I just find it interesting.

Facebook

Of course.

Twitter

Of course. Although this is kinda cheating because I really only use my Twitter account for talking to bookish and bloggish (?) people.

YouTube

Just basically running through my list of social media at this point. But YouTube’s fun because you can watch a funny celebrity video to a serious video essay to a breakdown of your favorite book all in the same place. Magical, huh?

(I feel so lame, I can’t think of anything else)

Rate My Professors

THIS WEBSITE IS A GOD-SEND. Seriously, if you’re a college student, and you’re not using this website. Then I don’t know what you’re doing with your life. Sorry, but I’m not. It just shows ratings of professors given by students. Basically Goodreads for college professors. It’s saved me from a lot of duds, I can tell you that.

Thesaurus.com

Haha, I feel like a nerd putting this one on here. But I’m a nerd and I’m proud! Thesaurus.com is a beautiful thing…if you wield it wisely. You can’t just go throwing synonyms around, but if you know what you’re doing…*sigh wistfully* it’s the best.

Etsy

So I’ve only purchased a couple of things off Etsy before…and they were all downloadable things…but everything is just so beautiful. Sometimes I browse through the pages even though I know I’m not going to buy anything. Or sometimes I let myself believe I’m going to buy something just so I can justifiably scroll through the pages—and then I remember I’m in college and I’m poor. I think it’d be super cool to one day sell some things on Etsy…I’d just have to figure out what 😮

(I feel like this is such a lame post because everyone already knows about these websites)

Da Font

Da Font is da bomb. (See what I did there?) It’s basically just a site with tons of free fonts. You have to be careful if you’re using it for commercial reasons because some of their licenses don’t allow for that. But since all of my stuff is non-commercial and just for personal use, I can roll around in the beautiful-font-gloriousness of it. Seriously, it’s wonderful. Go check it out. Like what da font you still doing here? (Lol).

Although I feel like my websites weren’t super unique…have you been to all of these? What are some of your favorite non-bookish websites? Let me know in the comments!

  • Carlisa, yes to this list! Especially rate my professors and other sites like them – they’re awesome to look at!
And yeah I usually only use Twitter for bookish/bloggish things – I have no idea how to use it with people I actually know! :S
Am checking out Family Search now – thanks for the recs 😀

    • Yeah, my Twitter used to just be for people I knew, like friends from school and stuff…but now I don’t even know what I’d talk about if I didn’t talk about books all the time 😮

  • Kate

Agree, da font is da best (right back at ya).

Here’s my TTT (heavy on the delicious food links) – https://booksaremyfavouriteandbest.wordpress.com/2016/05/10/its-not-all-about-books/

    • Yesss, Da Font is wonderful! I’m glad you love it!

  • Ali (@ thebandarblog)

I’ll still chuckling about your “what da font are you still doing here” joke.

    • Hahaha, yes. I’m glad you appreciate it 🙂

  • MFD

Great list. 🙂 It was hard to find 10 “unique” websites. I had to cave and use sites that almost everybody uses. I was trying to go for unusual ones. I remember when I was in middle school and high school I would be constantly downloading fonts to use on papers and stuff.
My TTT: Marie @ Pages to Explore

    • Yeah, it was so hard! A ton of mine were definitely the generic ones that everyone uses, but it’s the truth! Haha, thanks for visiting 🙂

  • It’s okay, window shopping is part of the fun of etsy honestly. Half the time I spent on there is just my favouriting things that I may not ever buy. How great is the downloadable content option though? I love it for prints, better than paying to have basically a piece of paper sent to you when you can just print your goodies at home!

    • Yes! I always want to do this…but then I have to restrain myself because my poor bank account wouldn’t be able to take it. But I’ve used a ton of downloadables off of Etsy to design headers and things for my blog, so it’s fun!

  • MeezCarrie

oooo iwastesomuchtime sounds addicting! My TTT

  • Alice Rose Simmons

Pinterest and youtube are two of the biggest ways I waste time on the internet! I also may need to check out i waste so much time 🙂
    Heres my TTT
