2016 Love-a-Thon Questionnaire!

Posted February 20, 2016 by Carlisa in Events / 7 Comments

Yaaaay! This is my first Love-a-thon! Last year, I was actually just starting to book blog when this happened (my blogaversary post is coming up later this week!), so I just creeped on the Love-a-thon’s happenings without actually participating. Buuut here I am, a year later, and ready to jump in!

The first post is a questionnaire to help you all get to know me a little better, so let’s just get to it.

1. What’s your name?

If you didn’t know, my name is Carlisa. And because it’s frequently mispronounced, let me break it down: Carli + suh. Or Car + Lisa. It’s a unique name, but I like it!

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?

I’m blogging from Utah where I go to school! I grew up in the Midwest my entire life, but am loving the mountains and lack of humidity out here.

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?

So I’ve been blogging since middle school, but it was really that sporadic journaling where I wrote when exciting things happened in my life, and probably only my mom read it. It wasn’t until last year (it’s been a year! AH!) that I came across my first book blog and realized that book blogging was even a thing. And I realized that it was a thing that I wanted to be involved in. So it’s been a process learning how to organize my posts and create content and whatnot with school in the picture, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

4. How did you come up with your blog name?

Like I told you, this used to be a blog about my life. I had a blog in high school, but wanted a new and fresh one when I came to college, so I was brainstorming with my sister and we both liked the alliteration in Confessions of Carlisa. And I know it’s not bookish, and I’ve considered changing it because of that…but I also love it. And I can take it in any direction I ever want to take it in. Because it’s just about what I have to say.

5. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

I read and review whatever my heart desires, which is mostly young adult. I’ve been getting into fantasy more in the past couple of years, and honestly kind of growing out of young adult contemporary. But the right ones can always suck me back in (*cough The Start of Me and You cough*). I really do have a large variety though!

6. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

I did a Fairy Tale Friday thing last summer where I just talked about anything fairytales because I really love them. I kind of drifted off on them, but I’ve been brainstorming and I’m hoping to bring them back! I also write discussions when the inspiration hits. I love Top Ten Tuesdays because it allows so much interaction with so many different bloggers. And that’s basically it! I write when I have something to write about, and I love book blogging because there is always someone who will listen.

7. Best blogging experience so far?

I think just interacting with different authors. Since I’ve started book blogging, I’ve gone and met four of my favorite authors—Sarah Dessen, Lauren Oliver, Sarah J. Maas, and Marissa Meyer—which have been phenomenal experiences. But besides physical meetings, I’m able to interact with them on Twitter and it’s honestly wonderful. They’re all just people who are so grateful for every reader, and that’s great to see.

8. Favorite thing about the blogging community?

The love and interaction! Seriously, not many in my real life understand my love of reading. But you all do and that’s wonderful and I just want to hug you all.

9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2016!

Ummmmm Heartless by Marissa Meyer, Throne of Glass 5 by Sarah J. Maas, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh, and The Epidemic by Suzanne Young

10. Name the 5 books you want to read this 2016 that you didn’t get to in previous years!

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (it’s sooo long, but I want to read it sooo bad), Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Uprooted by Naomi Novik, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

11. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Maybe this isn’t “underrated” per say, but everyone should read it. It’s beautifully-written and powerful and now I want to re-read it.

12. Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?

Paige from The Start of Me and YouIf you click on the link, I listed off all of the reasons that she and I are essentially the same person, and therefore meant to be best friends forever, right?

13. Which book boy or girl would be your book boyfriend/girlfriend?

This is hard for me because when I ship someone, I don’t ship them for me but for the person they’re supposed to be with. If that makes sense. Like, I love Peeta but that doesn’t mean want him. He’s supposed to be with Katniss, gosh dang it! So I don’t think I can answer this.

14. Who would you recruit for your apocalypse squad (5 characters max)

Katniss, obvs. Celaena from Throne of Glass because she’s kick-butt and magic. Then Hermione. Errrrm Cinder for her cool cyborg tools (and great personality). And then just me, I guess. Girl power!

15. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

I love to play the piano. I freelance blog for a marketing company back home, which I guess is like a job, but I enjoy doing it. I swam in high school and, though I don’t find much time for it, I still love hopping in that pool. I like board games. And I like just spending time with people and talking to them, listening to what they have to say and figuring out how their minds work. Is that weird?…Nah.

16. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

Clothes if I’m in the right mood (aka anytime I walk into Target or Old Navy). Music stores can be fun! Other than that, I don’t do a ton of shopping.

17. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?

Right now, anything Sara Bareilles. I love her, mostly because I can jam out and belt any of her songs while I’m driving—a pastime that I quite enjoy. Also, she just wrote a Broadway musical called Waitress and the songs are fun and beautiful and I love them.

18. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

The Lunar Chronicles! I would love to see these quirky and fun and great characters come to life in this epic story. And so many of their stories become intwined that seeing it would be an awesome thing.

19. What would your dream library look like?

I imagine myself sliding down the row on a ladder like Belle, books and shelves galore. There’d probably be a nice little reading nook and comfy couch. Some blankets for the chilly, rainy days. It’d just be a wonderful place, I can tell you that for sure.

20. Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?

Susan Dennard. She’s the nicest author I’ve ever interacted with on Twitter and I’d love to meet her in person. She cares so much for her readers and I just love that so, so much.

I hope you feel like you know me a little better! Link me to your Love-a-thon Questionnaires if you have them! If not, answer some of these questions for yourself. Do you agree with me? Disagree? Would answer differently? Let me know in the comments!

  • You’ve met so many great authors. I’m actually a lot more excited to meet Marissa Meyer more than anything else. I hope she visits my country <3

  • HAPPY ALMOST BLOGAVERSARY. I’ve been following your blog for so long so I’m very excited for you, Carlisa. 😀

I actually haven’t read the Book Thief… which is kind of sad. I know I should; I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I seriously need to finish the Lunar Chronicles series too. I’ve only read Cinder!

Hey there! I had no idea Sara Bareilles wrote a musical – that’ll be amazing! Just found your blog, so I can’t wait to look around!

  • This is my first LoveAThon too! Hope you’re enjoying it as much as I have been! 🙂
I think your blog name is AWESOME – alliteration ALWAYS works and it has a nice ring to it!
It’s so awesome that you’ve been able to interact with so many authors, especially Sarah J. Maas!
Gone with The Wind is pretty long – I don’t blame you for having not read it yet!
Ahh Sara Bareilles is pretty nice to listen to! I love her song, Love Song, it was one of my favourites! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by at Corralling Books! It was awesome to see you there! 🙂

  • I picked The Lunar Chronicles as well for the book I’d love to see as a TV show! I think it would be fantastic, and it’d be fun to see those characters and that storyline translated on screen. Also, I’m really excited to Throne of Glass #5. I neeeeeed it. Hope you’re having fun. Happy Love-a-Thon!

  • Alyssaz

Hello! I wish I lived in Utah right about now, instead of chilly MN! Love your kick butt apocalyptic girl squad!

  • Cee

I’m always surprised when I’m articulate speaking to my favorite authors in person. Then again, it doesn’t go beyond: “I love your books.” Ha.

Like you, I gotta get Shadow and Bone, Uprooted, and All the Night We Cannot See. I know I should read it, but timing and mood! Never right!
