Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To…But Didn’t #Fail

Top Ten Tuesday

You’re probably tired of hearing me freak out about it being 2016…so let’s talk about 2015 a little bit. Since it was the year that I started to book blog, my TBR list grew exponentially. And, of course, I didn’t get to all of those books. So here are the ten 2015 releases I meant to read…but didn’t.

hotel ruby a thousand nights madness so discreet sacred lies of minnow bly uprooted

Hotel Ruby by Suzanne Young

I was super excited for this one when it released in November. I loved The Program series by her and was really looking forward to seeing another story by Young. I even pre-ordered it. But alas, November and December were stressful with exams and projects and homework and work. So I didn’t get to it. But it’s still on my shelf, so hopefully soon!

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston

I received this one on Netgalley to review and I was super excited about it because I love fairytale retellings. But I also loved The Wrath and the Dawn last year, and I’ve heard they’re kind of similar…I mean they’re both retelling the same story. So I think I was kind of afraid to read them too close to one another and not like A Thousand Nights because of it. But I’m hoping to read it soon and finally send them my promised review.

A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis

This book sounds awesome and creepy and, oh yeah, awesome. Also just look at the cover. It sucked me in right away. THE CREEPY HAND. You don’t even see it at first, but once you do, you won’t ever not see it. But this book sounds right up my alley…but I didn’t read it. Sooooooon.

The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes

I went and bought this one soon after it was published last summer…but it has just sat on my shelf ever since. It’s another fairytale retelling, but unique because it’s one of the stories that we don’t really know much about. I think the original story is the Handless Maiden, or something like that. But this one is also sitting on my shelf, and I’m hoping to get to it soon.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

This one received so much hype last summer and I was so excited that I ordered it right away! But I ordered the UK version because I like the cover so much better. This one is a fairytale…but not a retelling. So a new story that is completely its own thing. And I’m excited.

Made You Up by Francesca Zappia

THE COVER. It. Is. Beautiful. I bought this one on a whim from a little indie bookstore back home and, like almost all the books on this list, it’s just sitting on my shelf. Waiting for me.

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby

To be honest, I don’t know much about this book. Only that people have loved it and that it’s beautifully-written. I don’t own it, but I really did want to read it and I definitely still do.

The Storyspinner by Becky Wallace

I won a Twitter giveaway from the author of this one so I have a signed book and some signed postcards for this one. And the main girl’s name is Johanna…which is my middle name. So basically we’re soul sisters.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

I haven’t read any Patrick Ness yet, but people love him so I want to start! And people have told me this isn’t the best of his, but I think it’d be a good place to start. I actually ordered it on Amazon and then one a signed copy just a few days later so I have two copies waiting for me on my shelf.

Ash & Bramble by Sarah Prineas

My YA lit professor gave this one to me for free last semester, so I’ve been excited to get into it. It got mixed reviews, but it’s another Cinderella retelling that I’m looking forward to exploring.

Have you read any of these 2015 releases? Should I put them on the top of my TBR? What books in 2015 did you mean to read but didn’t? LET ME KNOW! Also link me with your TTT post!

  • Made You Up made it onto my list as well!! I look forward to reading it this year though. They didn’t make it onto my list but I also want to read Uprooted and The Rest of Us Just Live Here!

    • Made You Up looks SO beautiful on the outside and SO intriguing on the inside. I kind of love unreliable narrators, so I’m excited to eventually read it.

  • Awh man I wanted to read “A Madness so Discrete” too! I keep looking at everyone’s list and going “Oh yeah, I forgot to add THAT one to my list too!” The pile is neverending. So many books, so little time, I’m telling ya. I think I’ve come to terms that my TBR will always be longer than my lifespan XD

Anyway, I read “The Rest of Us Just Live Here” (pretty good, but I liked “More Than This” by Ness a lot more, but honestly, I think this would be a good book to start with. Just make sure you read “More Than This” too!) and “Made You Up” (SO wonderful, I love a good unreliable character!) I hope you read them this year!

    • That feeling of “Oh yeah, I totally forgot to add that to my list” happens to me EVERY Tuesday when I start blog hopping.

And with The Rest of Us, I’ve heard from multiple people that it’s not Ness’s best book, but I’m hoping to read this one and then start into his others! Have you read the one that’s being made into a movie? A Monster Calls?

  • YOU STILL HAVEN’T READ HOTEL RUBY! Shame on you, Carlisa. I’m just kidding. Life is such a pain in the butt. I’m excited for you to read it, though. Sometimes I think my judgement was clouded just because I love Suzanne Young so much, haha. You need to keep me updated when you do eventually read it.

    • I KNOOOOOW. I hung my head in shame when I typed that because I pre-ordered it and I still haven’t read it. BUT SOON. And I will for sure keep you updated!

  • VanessaIsen!

    These all look super good!

    • I knoooow! Hopefully I’ll have time outside of school to read them.

  • Jo Elliott

I didn’t have any of these on my list but a few of them are on my TBR.

    • Yay for good books that we’ll read in the future!

  • Kat C

Wow, I have seen the Storyspinner and A Madness so Discreet a lot on these. *puts on hold at library*

  • The Rest of Us Just Live Here was the first Patrick Ness book I’ve read, and I really liked it. I was surprised to read some people say who have read his other books that they didn’t enjoy The Rest of Us Just Live Here.

  • Nori

I read A Thousand Nights and enjoyed it. I really want to read Hotel Ruby and Uprooted! Also, I just got a copy of The Storyspinner and can’t wait to read it. 🙂 I hope you love the books when you have a chance to read them!
