The Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

The wonderful Sarah from The Reading Petal tagged me in this Unpopular Opinion Book tag. And I got super excited. Because having differing opinions can be fun, am I right?

A Popular Book or Series that You Didn’t Like

divergent  just one day the unbecoming of mara dyer matched

I’m not really here to explain why I didn’t like these books (although I explain my reasoning behind We Were Liars in my review here)…because we all have different minds, right? Just because I didn’t like these popular books doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. AKA don’t hate me.

A Popular Book that Everyone Hates But You Love

the 5th wave the host

I’ve seen some people who didn’t like The 5th Wave, but I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the movie. I need to read the sequel stat.

And I feel like all books by Stephenie Meyer get a bad reputation now…and though the Twilight series isn’t my favorite anymore, I still love The Host. Meyer wrote it with a different audience in mind and I just like the characters and plotline a lot.

A Love Triangle Where Your Ship Did Not Sail

les misI hardcore wanted Éponine and Marius to end up together. Cosette is nice and all…but Éponine is wonderful. Maronine is the best ship name I can think of…MARONINE FOREVER.

A Popular Genre You Hardly Reach For

Science Fiction. I just have a hard time getting into it. Some of it, though, I’ve loved. But for the most part, I’m not the biggest fan of this.

A Beloved Character You Didn’t Like

winners curse series

It’s not that I didn’t like Kestrel. I just didn’t love her like everyone else seems to. I was just overall a little underwhelmed with this series and Kestrel as a character…but I’m for sure still going to read The Winner’s Kiss next year.

A Popular Author You Can’t Get Into

rick riordan

I’m sorry all of you Percy Jackson fans. I tried…I did. But I couldn’t get into them.

A Popular Book Trope You’re Tired of Seeing

This is going to be super cliché, but insta-love. There’s a difference between being attracted to someone on first meeting them…and being in love with them. No matter how romantic it sounds, I don’t really believe in the whole “love at first sight” thing.

A Popular Book Series You Have No Interest in Reading

city of bones series

I started reading City of Bones years ago and I just couldn’t get into it. And I’ve heard enough people that don’t like it that I just don’t have an interest in ever reading them. And the books just go on and on. Sorry to y’all who are avid Clare fans.

An Adaptation You Like Better than the Book

I think this movie was better than the book! The movie just made connections that the book lacked…and it just made more sense. And I like Tris and Four better in the movie. And I actually felt like Tris had a real relationship with her parents in the movie…and I didn’t feel like that in the book, sooooo…yeah.

Hi! Sarah suggested I check out your blog. 😀

I think you’re the first person I’ve seen who doesn’t like Just One Day, either. I really liked Where She Went, but Just One Day did absolutely nothing for me.

I also agree about Kestrel. I liked the books (although the second was kind of painful), but I don’t think she’s the most amazing heroine ever.

    • I liked If I Stay and Where She Went, too! And people *rave* about Just One Day but I just thought it was cheesy and unrealistic. Which maybe works for some people? And maybe it’d work for me if I was in the right mood, but when I read it…nope.

  • Thank you so much for tagging me! I’ve wanted to do this post for a while. I also didn’t like the Matched series. I found it really boring and the writing was robotic. I was curious about Cassandra Clare’s books but with so many stories about makes me not want to.

    • Yessssss I’m glad that you agree about Matched. It just didn’t do it for me but people seemed to really like it!

I’ve never heard about plagiarism and Cassandra Clare! What’s the story there?

  • I SHIP MARONINE TOO OMG!! *flails* Also about the Mortal Instruments (is that what it’s even called??)- I can’t seem to get into this series because those are big books AND THE SERIES IS SO LONG. I feel like it should have been a trilogy and then OVER.
