Books That Need to Be Movies

Top Ten Tuesday

Books are wonderful. They’re awesome because they’re literally just pages and pages of ink on paper. But that ink causes us to see and experience things we wouldn’t on our own. And I think that’s amazing. And when these books become movies or TV shows, when we can experience the same story that we grew to love in a different format, it’s awesome. And though I would say that 80% of the time, the book is better…having a movie to watch and love is just great. I am almost always down to go see a movie. And sometimes when I read a book, I just know that it would make a great movie. Hereee we go.

  1. The 5th Wave
Yes, yes. I know. This movie is already in post-production. It comes out in January. But I just read it and it was so intense that its cinematic possibilities were almost quite literally pouring out of its pages. I really hope they do a good job with this movie.
  2. The Cinder series
I love this series and I don’t really know how they would pull it off without making it look cheesy and cyborgy…but there is someone out there who can do it. I know it. If that someone is you, dear reader, get up and get going. Chop chop.
  3. The Night Circus
This book comes up in my TTTs a lot but that’s because it’s BEAUTIFUL. Seriously. Man, I need to reread this one. I was enchanted by its words and the magical world Erin Morgenstern created. I want to be enchanted watching it in the movie theater too, gosh dang it. Really, this would make a beautiful movie, just like it’s a beautiful book. Go read it.
  4. The Uglies series
I know not everyone likes these books, but I feel in love with them in what, middle school? And I’ve had all four books on my shelf ever since. And even though I haven’t read them in years, I still want to see these produced. I’m pretty sure a movie used to be in the works and, last I heard, it was becoming a TV show? I don’t know. Anyways, I would like to see the directions they’d take this in.
  5. Delirium
This was my first Lauren Oliver book and I really enjoyed it. Although the first one surpassed the following two, I thought this idea and concept behind the series was great. And a movie could take it to the next level. And yeah, I know that there was an attempt to make this a TV series. A failed attempt. But but but. There’s always tomorrow, my friends. And better actors can work wonders.

I’m literally so bad at coming up with ten things. I was going through my favorite book shelfs on GR and most of my favorite books have already become movies. Soooooooo. Here we are with five.

Now this has me thinking about the books that wouldn’t become good movies. I have a few ideas. I think I’m going to make a post about it. Hmmmm my blog senses are tingling. Oh my gosh, I’m so weird. Just forget about it. It’s like midnight. Okay I’m done. I apologize.

What books made your list? Which books do you think would make great movies or TV shows? Do you disagree with any of my choices? Let me know!

  • I’m looking forward to see “the 5th wave” as well 🙂

  • I have The Lunar Chronicles on my list this week too. I think if done well it would be fascinating! The Night Circus also made my list. The movie would be visually stunning!

  • I am so with you on The Night Circus, it is such a gorgeous book and would translate so beautifully to screen!

This topic had me thinking about books that wouldn’t make good movies too. I kept being like, “Oh! I would love to see this as a movie…no, wait that would actually be terrible.” I hope somebody give Delirium and second chance too, I love that book. Great picks! My list.

  • Delirium would be very interesting as a movie. I thought that the first book was the best as well. Great list!

  • Jo Elliott

I had Uglies on my list this week too! I wasn’t that keen on the sequels but would love it if the first book was made into a movie.
